About
Welcome to VisABLE — a platform of stories about one of the most marginalized communities in our world: the disabled community.
On VisABLE, you will read stories that focus on people making an impact in the disability community. These disability-centric stories are written to amplify the voices and narratives of this underrepresented group to provide more visibility in our world.
VisABLE’s goal is to “normalize” and change the way the world views disability, one story at a time.
VisABLE is part of BirdMine, a documentary production company co-owned by Kody Leibowitz, and Allison Norlian.
For Allison, creating VisABLE is personal: her reason is her older sister, Rebecca. Becky was born developmentally disabled. Their mother raised them on her own.
“It was ‘us against the world’ — a world not designed for people like my sister or their families,” Allison said. “Life wasn’t easy, and I saw at a young age how inaccessible society is and how horribly people with disabilities are often treated.”
Allison set out to create positive change for families like hers and people like her sister. And her way of helping to make change is through storytelling.
Now, with VisABLE, she can focus on disability stories, and the public can find them all in one place.
Thank you for visiting VisABLE and reading these stories. Let’s work to change the way the world views disability and create a better, more inclusive, and accepting world.
